Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHDM)

Our Mission

Our mission is to become a channel to propagate the good news of the Gospels. We shall reach out to lessen the difficulties faced by the poor, the needy, the sick, and the lonely, and be involved in activities and projects that contribute to the holistic development of persons and groups.

Hallmarks of SIC-PIHDM

  1. Our commitment to integrate human development means that our initiatives are not limited to catering only to the physical needs of those who seek our help but emphasis is also given to sustainable social, emotional and spiritual development.
  2. The social awareness and justice issues which are emphasised by the teachings of our Church form the core principles that drive our choice of projects.
  3. We are committed to collaborating with other ministries, parish groups and BECs of our Church in projects that are in line with our Mission.

Main Activities

  1. Urban poor programmes – Focus on urban poor in Putra Damai and other areas within our parish irrespective of race or religion. Adoption programme for the poor families to meet their basic needs, and promotion of self-help activities to the families.
  2. Child Learning Centre provides educational assistance to preschool and school going children. It also provides financial assistance to poor secondary school children who show potential for excellence.
  3. Special Needs Learning Programme for the needy is held twice a week.
  4. Provides financial and material assistance to migrant and refugees. These include provisions and medical aid.
  5. The Street Shepherd Outreach group provides free meals weekly to the homeless and needy who loiter around the streets of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.
  6. Women’s Desk seeks to educate and empower women and to create awareness of issues relating to women.
  7. We assist the East Malaysian students who are studying in the local colleges to integrate with our local parishioners and be part of our St Ignatius parish family.
  8. We organise recycling activities to reduce waste and protect the environment. The reusable items collected are sold through the Thrift Shoppe to raise funds for our activities and programmes.
  9. Collaborate with the Archdiocese Office of Human Development (AOHD) to implement the annual Lenten Campaign and other AOHD activities and programmes in our parish. Further details of the AOHD activities and programmes can be found in their website at AOHD.
  10. Collaborate with SVDP (Society of St Vincent de Paul) on areas of education of children. Find out more about their Rumah Kanak-Kanak Impian.

How You Can Contribute

We accept donations to fund our programmes for the poor. Contributions/donations can be submitted to the Parish Office, attention the Coordinator of the PIHDM. All cheques should be made payable to “St. Ignatius Church”.

SIC PIHDM is always in need of volunteers and helpers to assist in the various programmes listed above. You may leave your name at the parish office or call the person in charge listed above.
