BRIEF INTRODUCTION
- The Formation Team was formed in 1977/1978 when Father John Chia was the Parish Priest.
- It is the Formation arm of the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC).
- When it was formed, its primary objective was promoting the objectives of the KL Archdiocese with regards to the directions set forth in the various Peninsula Malaysia Pastoral Convention (PMPC), now known as MPC (Malaysia Pastoral Convention).
- Therefore, its focus audience are the church and BEC leaders, not the parishioners at large, and to equip and align these leaders with the objectives and directions set forth in the various MPC.
- The team keeps abreast with the ongoing development and objectives in church renewal and directions of KL Archdiocese and the Mother Church at large.
- It uses formation tools such as the NIP (New Image of the Parish) developed by the Movement for A Better World (and promoted by the late Fr Peter Kim of SFX Church) as well as others as promoted by the Peninsula Malaysia Pastoral Team (PMPT) – to assist in the formation of the church leaders.
- The team is comprised of the Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, Secretary, Assistant Secretary and regular members. The team meets regularly either on a monthly or bimonthly basis.
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
- To orientate SIC leaders, new and existing on the call to serve, framing the role and responsibilities of servant leadership and bonding and building comradeship amongst leaders towards promoting, aligning and achieving the objectives of the annual themes of KL Archdiocese and St Ignatius Church – PJ.
- To ease the reception and inception of new leaders, equip and attend to leaders’ needs
– To familiarise new leaders with the history, directions of the parish and be beacon of hopes as missionaries and disciples of Jesus.
– To equip leaders with the operational structure and aspects of the parish.
– To acquaint leaders to appreciate the Spirituality and Mission of the clergy/congregation serving the parish, Congregation of the Disciples of the Lord.
– To facilitate the new leaders to engage with the many ministries.
– To provide leaders with a broad vision of the Church through understanding of the basic focus of MPC and NEWBEC. - To align church leaders (include new and potential) to the objectives set forth in the various MPC
– Through event planning i.e. annual bonding of clergy and lay leaders targeted at re-alignment of shared values and hopes.
– To encourage full participation, foster deepening relationship with God, fellowship with clergy and community and a sense of belonging to the Family of God.
– To assess the effectiveness and align/coordinate all events, talks and sessions submitted by various ministries and BEC to the spiritual and faith development of the parish, with a view to assure living out of faith and growth for individuals and communities within the church.
WHAT OUR TEAM OFFERS
- Offer Parish wide formations such new leaders Orientation programme and leaders development retreat to enhance skills in church servant leadership.
- Assist in initial parish wide analysis and annual planning.
- Manage annual parish-level formation calendar, ensuring no overlapping of formation programmes and that the proposed formation is in line with the annual parish theme and direction.
- Assist PPC to source for speakers, organise and facilitate specific parish wide formation.
- Introduce leaders’ spirituality formation relevant to improve church servant leadership.

- Others as recommended by the KL Archdiocese, SIC Priest and Parish Pastoral Council.
