Parishioners attending the Fourth Sunday of Easter sunset Mass held at St Ignatius Church (SIC) on 7 May 2022 also witnessed the installation of Fr Lawrence Ng CDD as Parish Priest of SIC by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow. The ceremony started with Archbishop Julian handing over the Keys of the Parish Church to the new Parish Priest. After Parish Pastoral Council Chairperson Jaclyn Tan read the Archbishop’s letter of appointment, Fr Lawrence stood in front of the Altar before the Archbishop for the renewal of promises. Fr Lawrence then led the congregation in reciting the Profession of Faith, placed his hands on the Book of the Gospels and recited the Oath of Fidelity. Finally, Fr Lawrence was presented as Parish Priest of SIC.

SIC Assistant Parish Priest Fr Martin Then CDD, Fr Andrew Wong CDD (Provincial Superior of CDD in Malaysia) & Fr Anthony Heng CDD were the concelebrants. Fr Lawrence thanked Almighty God & Archbishop Julian, his CDD Order & SIC parishioners for their support & encouragement, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary sisters, and his parents & family members who were also present at the multi-lingual Mass. Attendees received a souvenir card with the words: Rejoice Always. Pray Without Ceasing. Give Thanks in Everything & a listing of SIC Parish Priests. As it was also Vocation Sunday, Fr Lawrence addressed young Catholics who may be discerning God’s call with a reminder: A priest forever, a shepherd for all.

In his closing remarks, Archbishop Julian thanked the CDD Order for helping to lead SIC parish all these years. Archbishop Julian also thanked the contributions of priests & religious and encouraged young Catholics to be open to God’s call to the priesthood or religious life. All mothers then received a blessing on occasion of Mother’s Day.

Fr Lawrence assumed duties as the eighth Parish Priest of SIC on 1 Nov 2021. His appointment will be for a term of six years until 31 Oct 2027.
