The Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur Chancery Notice dated 31 Mar 2022 on the relaxation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines gave the St Ignatius Church RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) team a complete comeback to celebrate this year’s sacrament of initiation with its Elects and Confirmands. A total of 34 candidates clothed in white arrived at the Cafeteria in time to attend an hour of prayer. Later, all enthusiastically headed to the Grotto, queuing obediently at the start of the Service of Light at 9.30 pm during which the Paschal Candle is blessed and lighted.
Aware that light finally conquered death, the candidates then headed into the church for the Liturgy of the Word. They prayerfully participated in the singing of the Exsultet, the Litany of the Saints, witnessed the blessing of baptismal water as well as the congregation renewing their baptismal vows. During the Liturgy of Baptism, the 16 candidates (accompanied by their godparents) were baptised by SIC Parish Priest Fr Lawrence Ng CDD and Assistant Parish Priest Fr Martin Then CDD in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Eighteen confirmands (with their respective godparents) then joined the newly-baptised, and all 34 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation.
It was a special evening for these newly blessed candidates that they received both the Body and Blood of Christ. They were filled with joy and are committed to journey further in deepening their faith. The celebration ended just after midnight, with a group photograph taken with the celebrants. All were surprised to also receive a special Easter gift prepared by the parish. RCIA wishes to thank all other ministries which have directly and/or indirectly assisted in ensuring coordination in the celebration.
Meanwhile at the Easter Vigil Mass in Mandarin held earlier in the evening, 21 Elects were baptised and eight candidates were confirmed together with the Elects.
