Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP)

SSVP, Conference of St Ignatius Church (SIC), was set up in July 1992. SSVP is an international Catholic lay organisation founded in 1833 by Blessed Frederic Ozanam who named it after Saint Vincent de Paul – the poor man’s saint and patron saint for Christian charities. The Society welcomes all to live their Christian faith through works that aim to redress situations that adversely affect peoples' lives and their basic rights.

Established in 133 countries across five continents, SSVP has a worldwide membership of over 900,000. There are 60 Conferences in Malaysia comprising 700 members. SSVP celebrates the feast day of its patron saint on 27 September. In keeping with tradition, Vincentians distribute doughnuts to parishioners after weekend masses of this feast day.

Works undertaken by SSVP Conference of SIC include:

- Operating a shelter home for children (RKKI)
- Educational aid (bus fare, tuition fees)
- Food and rations assistance
- Shelter (rental assistance)
- Medical aid

Rumah Kanak-Kanak Impian (RKKI)

SSVP operates RKKI which is a home with a conducive study and living environment for underprivileged children in the 4 to 20 age group. Apart from catering to their physical and emotional well-being, major emphasis is placed on the educational needs of the children who are mainly from poor and single parent families. Besides attending government schools, the children also benefit from additional private lessons given by volunteer teachers. It is by empowerment through education that the poor can develop their potential to the fullest, build up self-esteem and come out of the poverty cycle. For more information on RKKI, please contact Alfance Joseph (President, SSVP) at 017 3596 210 or Meera (Home Committee) at 012 6520 871 during office hours.
