RCIA Outreach 2018

As part of their efforts in guiding current journey inquirers, the St Ignatius Church (SIC) Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) team organised an outreach activity to visit the Little Sisters of the Poor St Francis Xavier Home for the Elderly in Cheras on Sunday 28 October. Just a few weeks before the visit, the entire team gathered a donation sum for the home – enabling the purchase of new mattresses & pillows, replenishing of their pantry and presentation of a love offering to the sisters. Inquirers brought along their family members, friends and sponsors to witness the spirit of hospitality demonstrated by the caring sisters.

Sister Teresa gave a briefing on the various activities organised to ensure the senior residents spend their time well and keep up their hobbies. She then led all visitors to have a tour of the home, allowing everyone to have a first-hand look at the facilities made available. All were amazed on the cleanliness of the upkeep, including rooms, halls, gardens and ponds. Before lunch was served, the RCIA team serenaded the residents with a few hymns while the inquirers participated in serving drinks and food. After lunch, all were invited to visit the souvenir shop to check on the hand-made items done by the residents.!

Sister Teresa reminded everyone to visit the home's auditorium on 26 December at 2.30 pm to witness their Christmas performance. On the other hand, the inquirers also enjoyed listening to His Eminence Cardinal Anthony Soter Fernandez – Malaysia's first and only Cardinal & Archbishop Emeritus of Kuala Lumpur – who shared his life experiences. Many of the children of inquirers surrounded Cardinal Soter for they enjoyed the gifts of candy and religious stickers presented. Inquirers took home a sense of community life, with sharing and serving taught by the Lord, that will inspire them to continue living in hope and prayer.
