Holy Hour

St Ignatius Church (SIC) has been conducting an hour of adoration of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament twice a month for the past decade and a half. Parishioners gather together as a community during Holy Hour for praise and worship through prayers, hymns, listening to the Gospel and homily. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed and placed on the altar from the beginning. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament – according to the Directory of Popular Piety and the Liturgy (December 2001) – is “a most apt way of expressing the connection between the celebration of the memorial of the Lord’s Sacrifice and His continued presence in the Sacrament of the Altar.”

Regular attendance to adore the Blessed Sacrament will draw us “into an ever deeper share in the paschal mystery and leads us to respond gratefully to the gift of Him who through His humanity constantly pours divine life into the members of His Body.” As we enjoy Jesus’ intimate friendship during this holy hour, we pour out our hearts for healing, fulfilment of our needs, and pray for the peace and salvation of the world. Apart from an increase in faith, hope and charity, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament helps us “foster those right dispositions that enable us with due devotion to celebrate the memorial of the Lord and receive frequently the bread given us by the Father.”

In the Garden of Gethsemane after His disciples had fallen asleep, Jesus asked Peter: “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?” (Matt 26:40). We ourselves can obey Jesus’ call by attending Holy Hour at SIC which is held on the first and third Thursday of the month from 8 pm to 9 pm. Please check the SIC Church Bulletin for the schedule.
